Lambert Gets Revenge for Bee StingCoit Park Rangers crashed to a first defeat in 16 months against Union Avenue. Union Avenue Rangers' boss Brian Lambert was stung by a bee at his home this weekend. At John Peel Memorial Stadium on Sunday, he got his revenge. The visitors arrived full of energy and immediately took the game to CPR, who had previously won two more games to stretch their lead to five points. Union Avenue took a first half lead but soon had that wiped out in typical fast break style. Rangers regained their lead with a fine shot inside the post with less than a minute remaining. The Bees had the equaliser at their feet with just seconds left on the clock, but shot wide. UAR continued their fine form in the next game against Mandalecht, scoring after just 27 seconds. Mandalecht equalised but UAR went ahead again by the fifth minute. One more goal late in the second half sealed victory, and the Hoops are just a point behind the Magpies with a game in hand, and should they win their two in hand on CPR, they would be level. Earlier, CPR beat Mandalecht 4-0 in their first meeting of the season, then made it three wins out of three against Myers View Magpies with a 1-0 win after a costly mistake by the goalkeeper leaving an open goal. Magpies responded with a 1-0 win against Mandalecht, who have now lost five straight. CPR's record in all competitions since their last loss, the Coppa Perugia final against UAR on April 11 2009, was 69 59-10-0 155:18 with a win% of 0.928. Their Belknap League record was 40 32-8-0 88:12 for a percentage of 0.900. |
